Assassin's Creed Introduces Unexpected AoT Collaboration for Holiday Season
In a bizarre partnership that defies usual predictions, Ubisoft has announced an digital collaboration between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the popular anime series Attack on Titan. The unexpected Thanksgiving event operates from November 25 through December 22, offering complimentary additional story content for Shadows players.
Strange Questline Disclosed
According to the official release, "A strange confrontation leads protagonists Naoe and Yasuke into a new mission, where hints of banned rituals and monstrous transformations reverberate through the obscurity." The plot features a "unusually garbed woman named Ada" who assigns the characters with journeying into the Crystalline Cavern—a important location from Attack on Titan—to liberate her friend from a hidden cult.
The mission concentrates on "bizarre tests and a terrifying enemy" and is open to all players who have unlocked the Yasuke character.
Familiar Settings and Transformations
The preview showcases the Hidden Temple from Attack on Titan reimagined as the Crystal Cave. This historic location was previously where the Reiss royal family transmitted the Founding Titan ability through eras. The teaser finishes with a powerful sequence showing a character, presumably the hostage, transforming into a Titan that towers over Naoe and Yasuke.
Exclusive Rewards and Additional Features
Players who finish the quest will receive an unique katana alongside several items hidden throughout the area in concealed chests. The update also includes premium Attack on Titan item packs, featuring:
- Titan-inspired attire for Yasuke
- Mikasa attire for Naoe
- Exclusive arms
- Survey Corps vehicle
Newest Free Story Content
This update also brings the game's latest free story episode, titled "A Puzzlement." This playful adventure partners Naoe and Yasuke as they exchange signature abilities: Naoe debuts a theatrical variation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke masters subduing stealth takedowns. True to its name, "A Puzzlement" also contains a new environmental puzzle that may eventually explain some unresolved questions from the main storyline.
Earlier Japanese Animation Partnerships
This marks hardly the initial time the Assassin's Creed franchise has collaborated with famous anime properties. The series formerly featured a 2020 cross-promotional story uniting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Moreover, Valhalla unofficially included a quest that clearly nodded to the famous series One-Punch Man.
